Pomegranates are full of antioxidants. These are vitamins and enzymes known for keeping “bad” cholesterol from oxidizing and causing hardening of the arteries. Pomegranate seeds act a lot like aspirin, keeping blood platelets from sticking together and forming dangerous blood clots. thinning the blood. Research also shows that consuming pomegranates can increase oxygen levels to the heart. Additionally, pomegranates can reduce the inflammation of arthritis by slowing down the enzymes that break down cartilage. Pomegranates also help lower risk of heart disease, lesson symptoms of diarrhea, fight cell damage (from free radicals), control weight and decrease risks of certain cancers.

Note of caution: Consuming  pomegranates might interfere with certain medications in the same way that grapefruits do.


Start to Finish: 5 mins

1 cup pomegranate juice

6 ounce carton vanilla fat-free yogurt

2 tablespoons honey

1/2 cup crushed ice

Directions:  In a blender, combine juice, yogurt, and honey. Cover and blend until smooth. Add ice; cover and blend until frothy. Serve immediately.
